Hey actors (whether professional or just-for-fun-at-home-in front-of-the-mirror), here's a cool and easy way to contribute to something big.

Nebraska Shakespeare alum, Brendan Bradley, just clued us into this very cool project called #Shakes450 that The Digital Stage is producing for Shakespeare's 450th birthday.
"The Digital Stage celebrates Shakespeare's birthday by collaborating across the internet to collectively upload over 450 monologues and sonnets before April 23rd, 2014. This would create the largest online archive of performed classical speeches on YouTube!

Join the #Shakes450 collaboration by uploading your own monologue at: http://www.TheDigitalStage.org or by emailing us a video at thedigitalstage@gmail.com"

Here's Brendan to fill you in on the project:

It's nearly Talk Like Shakespeare Day

With Talk Like Shakespeare Day just around the corner, here's what you need to know to get in on the action!
Governor Heineman and Artistic Director, Vincent Carlson-Brown,
with the Talk Like Shakespeare Day proclamation.

Step 1: Speaking like Shakespeare
It's not hard. It is still English (Early Modern to be exact), but it sounds remarkably intelligent. Luckily, this is surprisingly easy with these few tips:
Lead with Good Morrow and end with Adieu; Say Thee, Thou, or Thine instead of you, instead of y’all say Ye; men are Master, ladies are Mistress, and your friends are all called Cousin; instead of cursing, try calling your tormenters jackanapes or canker-blossoms or poisonous bunch-back’d toads; and, when in doubt, add the letters "eth" to the end of verbs (he runneth, he trippeth, he falleth)!

Step 2: Take Shakespeare's Speech With You  Anywhere
Whether at home or out and about, you can speak the speech where ever you are or you can check out the events and offerings from business participating in Talk Like Shakespeare Day.
  • Starbuck's, Jones Bros, eCreamery, and Storz Trophy Room & Brewery are just a few of the businesses offering Bard's Bargains throughout the day.
  • And cap off the night at House of Loom for Shakespeare themed Club Quiz to test your knowledge, enjoy a drink, and have a chance to win prizes.
Grab your Talk Like Shakespeare Pin
at any participating business.

Step 3: Share how you joined in Talk Like Shakespeare Day
Share your Talk Like Shakespeare events, videos, selfies, whatever you do on social media (#TalkLikeShakes); Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Vine, Instagram, or email it to us at info@nebraskashakespeare.com.

The best will win a fabulous t-shirt, front row seating at Shakespeare On The Green, a deck of Romeo & Juliet playing cards and a delicious bag of kettle corn.
