AS YOU LIKE IT and OTHELLO On The Green in 2015

Nebraska Shakespeare is excited for the 2015 season of Shakespeare On The Green:

As You Like It
Directed by Vincent Carlson-Brown
&
Othello
Directed by John Hardy

Nebraska Shakespeare continues to focus on delivering experiences true to the text and intent of Shakespeare while creatively and dynamically relevant to contemporary life.

Performances will be held June 18 - 21 and July 1, 2, and 5.

As You Like It will be set in an early-20th Century England. The move to the Forest of Arden will be a move to Ireland, where the music and culture of that region will be used as a resource.

“This play is an exploration of opposites: Male and Female. Past and Present. Community and Isolation. Innocence and Experience. Wisdom and Foolishness. Our production is a search for your other, your perfect half. The tragedy of loss, the drama of heartache, and the comedy of best laid plans balance each other with passion, music, and laughter.”

-Vincent Carlson-Brown, Director

Performances will be held June 25 - 28, 30, and July 3.

Othello will be set in the 15th Century Ottoman Empire. While traditional in aesthetic, the goal is to explore contemporary themes and tensions that exist in the Middle East.

“A person of color is hired to fight for his state, against people of color like himself. The result when we incorporate different people into a previously isolated culture? Things change. Our perceived values may be challenged and our thoughts and actions will be engaged in a new and different way.”

-John Hardy, Director
