Meet Oberon from A Midsummer Night’s Dream: Josh Ryan

We’re jumping into week two of rehearsals for A Midsummer Night’s Dream On Tour, so it‘s time for another #MeetTheCompanyMonday! This week, it’s Josh Ryan (@oneduckful), who is playing Theseus and Oberon in Midsummer!

Josh has worked with Nebraska Shakespeare for six years. He is a Nebraska native, originally from Columbus, and now lives in Omaha.

Josh spends his time offstage playing music, reading and listening to audiobooks, watching movies, and is an avid fan of comics and animation (some of his favorites include Batman, Pokémon, The Ninja Turtles, and the films of Don Bluth, Chuck Jones, Aardman Animation, Pixar and Studio Ghibli). He is constantly building his personal library of books, films, and albums.

In his own words:
Q: What is telling about you or your life that one may not get from your bio?“I’m fascinated with the world’s various cultures and religions. I dedicate a good deal of my free time to the study of these.”
Q: Would you consider yourself more quirky or conventional?“Quirky fo sho. It’s more fun! I think most people are quirky at heart, but some people are just afraid to let it show, which is such a silly thing to be afraid of.”
Q: How do you relate to Midsummer, or what is your favorite part of the play?“I totally relate to the foolish things people can do in the name of love. I adore the mechanicals and I’m also a fan of the scene where the four lovers get their love drunk quarrel on.”

Get further insight into a day in Josh’s acting life when he takes over Nebraska Shakespeare’s Instagram (@NEShakespeare) tomorrow.

And be sure to see him in A Midsummer Night’s Dream this fall as part of Shakespeare On Tour. For a list of public performances, visit
