We're Hiring for the 2019 season of Shakespeare On The Green!

Nebraska Shakespeare is currently seeking the artists and artisans to comprise the company for the 2019 season of Shakespeare On The Green, presenting All's Well That Ends Well and Hamlet.

Nebraska Shakespeare is a non-profit professional theatre organization committed to providing free presentations of the works of William Shakespeare in a beautiful outdoor setting for a diverse, contemporary audience. Shakespeare On The Green is presented each summer in cooperation with Creighton University, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and the City of Omaha.

Project:
Shakespeare on the Green is one of only a handful of admission free events across the country.

Location:Presented under the stars in a natural amphitheater set in Omaha's beautiful Young Park (411-1/2 N Elmwood Rd).

Audience:A diverse gathering from across the region. Average annual audience of nearly 20,000 people. Some audiences exceed 5,000.

June 20 through July 7

Residency:
Technicians: May 13th through July 12th
Acting Company: May 21st through July 7th

General Work ConditionsActors, Directors, and Management work six days a week, ordinarily with Monday as the day off. The scene shop operates Monday through Saturday. The costume shop operates Tuesday through Saturday. Rehearsals and Costume build take place at Creighton University's theatre building (Lied Education Center for the Arts). Scenic and properties build takes place at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Facilities include two rehearsal halls, costume shop, scene shop, dye room, callboards, and meeting and office spaces.

RehearsalsThere are two four-hour rehearsal periods in the workday: one in the afternoon (typically 12-4 PM) and a second in the evening (typically 6-10 PM). Technical and dress rehearsals run as late as 1 AM with appropriate adjustments made in the afternoon rehearsals.

Work Calls Scenic shop work calls are typically from 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM with two 15 minute breaks and 30 minutes for lunch. Costume shop work calls are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Props and paint generally follow the scene shop schedule and crafts follow the costume shop schedule. Lighting calls run with the scene shop until focus. Once the company moves into technical rehearsals, the schedules will change.


THE FOLLOWING POSITIONS ARE AVAILABLE:

Technical Director
Dates of Engagement: May 13th through July 12th, plus planning sessions prior
Pay: $500 - $550 per week (based on experience), plus housing.

The Technical Director is responsible for generating necessary working drawings for scenic construction; providing budget estimations and the maintaining of accounts; materials research and purchasing; advising directors, designers, and production personnel on the technical specifications, costs and usage of technical equipment required; scheduling and supervising build crews; assisting in recruiting, training and assignment of volunteer or paid technical staff; maintaining inventory and ordering specialized supplies; attending meetings and technical week rehearsals, in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of the mounting the shows; and organizing scenic changeover between shows and the strike and clean-up at the close of the season.



Scenic Personnel
Dates of Engagement: May 13th through July 12th
Pay: $200-$450 per week (based on position and experience), plus housing as available.

Reporting to the Technical Director, scenic personnel are responsible for assembling and building the deck and scenic elements for each production. Positions include scenic foreman, carpenters, welders, scenic painters, and specialty crafts artisans. Audio Technicians
Dates of Engagement: June 14th through July 7th
Pay: $200-$250 per week

Reporting to the Master Electrician, lighting technicians are responsible for all of the onstage lighting for a show including practicals, stage lighting, and follow spots. Electricians are responsible for the assembly, installation, and maintenance of the lighting for both productions. Electrics is also in charge of backstage power and any fog or haze effects, as well as the configuration of pyrotechnics and other special hardware.


Lighting/Electrics Technicians
Dates of Engagement: June 1st through July 12th

Lighting/Sound Board Operators (Volunteer/Internship Position)
Dates of Engagement: June 14th through July 7th
Pay: Volunteer/Internship

Reporting to the Director of Production, board operators are responsible for executing all cues as given by the stage manager to help ensure all technical aspects of performance are executed safely and efficiently.


Stage, Props, and Wardrobe Run-Crew (Volunteer/Internship Position)Dates of Engagement: June 15th through July 8th
Pay: Volunteer/Internship

Reporting to the Director of Production, run-crew personnel accomplish preset, scene and costume changes, and cues to help ensure all technical aspects of performance are executed safely and efficiently.

Site/Event Staff 
Dates of Engagement: May 14th through July 13th
Pay: Hourly

Duties include site setup, maintenance, and teardown; site security; provide the primary level of guest assistance in the seating area; provide access control, crowd management and ensure the venue is safe and inviting for guests; Provide guests with directions or other venue information; Act upon all comments/complaints in a prompt and friendly manner. Flexible scheduling and shifts available at all hours.


EMERGING ARTISTS AND PROFESSIONALS (EAP) PROGRAM:

Nebraska Shakespeare seeks to offer personal and professional development opportunities for college and graduate level students as well as interested professionals with a range of experience from very beginning to advanced skill level. EAPs get hands-on experience at departments across the organization, work and learn alongside other professionals, and participate in career development programs. EAPs are paired with a Company Mentor who, alongside the EAP’s direct supervisor, supports their growth and development.
